Look for the logical development of ideas based on the information gathered from viewing the video. Ask yourself these questions as you take notes:
- What is the opening sentence about? It may be the topic sentence or main idea.
- What is the last sentence about? Is it a restatement of the main idea?
- What important points are being made about the main idea?
- Are there important subtopics that need to be remembered?
- What key words (remember, most of all, listen) does the speaker use to tell you what he is about to say is important?
- How does the speaker's appearance affect the message?
- How does the speaker use his or her voice to emphasize points? Listen for tone and volume.
- Does the speaker repeat a phrase a number of times?
- What visual aids did the speaker use?
- Was the purpose of the speech to inform, persuade, entertain? What evidence supports this as the writer's purpose?
