Essay: Writing a Summary (3)
Follow the directions on the OW assignment page.
Project: Book Report -- Nonfiction (4)
Choose a nonfiction book that you have never read before. **Type the name and author of the book in the help note box. **Read the book each day while you work through this unit. Also type the page numbers or the chapters you read each day in the Help Note box to let me "see" your progress. (Remember to do this part!)
Once you have finished reading the book, complete a **book report by writing three paragraphs in the OW box. Be sure to use the lesson instructions to include the correct information in each paragraph. Proofread your work. Next make a video of yourself reading your report and send it to me in Skype. This can be done by using QuickTime or through Photo Booth. :)

Project: Four-Line Poem (15)
Read these four lines with a *different pattern.
Breezes push the fluffy clouds
And sway the leafy trees.
I wish that I might romp on high
Just like a playful breeze.
Instead of two couplets, this poem uses only one pair of rhyming words, but these words do not appear together. *The first and third lines may rhyme or the second and fourth lines may rhyme. In this poem the second and fourth lines rhyme.
Accented syllables. In this new pattern you will find that the number of accented syllables in the first line will be the same as in the third line. The number of accented syllables in the second line will be the same as the number of accented syllables in the fourth line.
Follow the directions on the OW assignment page and write your OWN four line poem.

(Only complete if assigned to you in OW.)
ESSAY: WRITING A STORY
Before you begin to write your story, you will want to read these suggestions.
1. What is the purpose of your story? How do you want the reader to respond? Keep this in mind as you write.
2. How many characters will you have? The main character can be a person or an animal. The characters must be interesting so that the reader will want to continue reading the story.
3. Your beginning sentence or paragraph should grab the reader's attention. You want the reader to read the whole story.
4. Select an interesting title for your story. This title will make the reader want to read the story. (Remember to capitalize all the important words in the title.)
5. Use conversation in your story. The reader will get interested in what the characters are saying. (Remember to use quotation marks in front of the first word and after the last word.)
You will read your story aloud to me. Make sure your story and word choices are appropriate for your audience. Vary how loud and fast you speak to make your story come alive. This can be completed over Skype or you may record it with QuickTime Player and send it to me.
Your story should be long enough to have a beginning, middle, and end that tells a complete story. When you have finished writing your story, proofread it carefully. Correct all mistakes. Try to include the five suggestions that you have just read.
**Remember to type your paper in a word document, save it, and upload it to the file area on the OW project page.** Set up a time to read your paper to me, or send me the video. :)
