Assignment: 3. Project: Finding the Topic
Carefully read and follow all the directions. Remember to use your best writing. Proofread your work with a parent before submitting.
Assignment: 12. Essay: Spelling Story
ESSAY: SPELLING STORY
Write a story using your spelling words.
Carefully follow these directions!!
Look at the words listed on the OW project page. You were given ten words as examples. Use these ten words in a story of at least 250 words about a boy, his dog, and a big black spider. Try to make your story meaningful. You may name the characters in your story to make it more interesting. : )
After you use the spelling words in your story, go back through and change the lettering for each spelling word to ALL CAPITALS. (This will allow me to easily find your spelling words and it will allow you to practice spelling them out one more time.) :)
Then on a separate paper, draw and color a picture to illustrate the most exciting event in your story. On the bottom of your picture write a sentence to describe it. Upload a picture of your drawing along with your story to the file on the OW page using the file option (click on icon). Put both into the same document because you can only load one file. If you cannot combine them for some reason, send the story in the file and the picture in Skype or in an email instead. Make sure you add a note letting me know how you are sending it if you do not save it all to the page. :)
These story-writing hints will help you write a good story.
1. List at least three things you want your reader to know about the boy, the dog, and the spider.
2. List at least three things you want the boy to do, the dog to do, and the spider to do.
3. Think about a place where your story could happen.
4. Every story needs-
a. a setting (where the story takes place).
b. a plot (what happens in the story or the main events told in order).
c. characters (the people or animals in the story).
d. conflict (a struggle between opposite sides).
5. Use adjectives and adverbs to make a more interesting story.
