Project: Book Report-Historical
Florence Nightingale
From OW-
"You have learned that fiction is literature (stories) created in the imagination. Nonfiction reading is factual information on various subjects. The solar system, World War II, computers, U.S. Presidents, desert plants, old cars, and basketball are just a few of the examples of non-fiction topics. Though any of these could also be the subject of fiction, nonfiction authors report factual information about such topics; even so, authors makes choices about how to put those ideas into words, and they may include opinion or commentary. As a result, even nonfiction is creative and is influenced and shaped by the author. Nonfiction reading can take a variety of forms; that is, the same topic can be handled in different ways. The topic of basketball, for example, can be treated as a story (history, in fact), if the author wishes to tell where basketball came from and how it developed into the game it is today. Basketball can also be handled as a book on how to play the game or as a list of the rules of the game. No matter how the topic is approached, the reading remains nonfiction as long as the author is giving factual information."
Over the next few weeks you are going to read a chapter book about Florence Nightingale. You will be required to read a few chapters of this book every other day. On the days in between you will complete one OW ---- lesson. Then the next day you will read from your chapter book and complete a Florence Nightingale worksheet, and so on. You will switch back and forth each day while reading through the book. I have included a schedule below for you to carefully follow.
During your OW ---- Subject time you will be required to follow the schedule as it is listed below. On Reading Days you will read the number of chapters in the book as listed in the schedule instead of doing a regular OW --- lesson. You may read it to yourself, read aloud to a parent, or take turns reading with a parent. You will want to be sure to record the time on your Reading Log too. :)
Each scheduled day after you complete the reading portion of the book, you will also have a Florence Nightingale Activity Worksheet to complete. You will compile these worksheets into a booklet. When you finish reading the book and have your booklet completed and put together, we will use Skype to go through it so you can share your work with me. :)
Remember to follow this SCHEDULE to receive full credit. Do NOT work ahead or SKIP over anything. Every other day you will read part of the book and work on your Florence Nightingale Activity Book. Each day in between you will complete ONE new OW --- lesson.
